2016 Korean Government Scholarship Program for Graduate Degrees

    1. Purpose

    The Korean government scholarship program is sponsored by the National Institute for International Education(NIIED) to provide higher education in Korea for international students and promote international exchange in education and mutual friendship amongst the participating countries.

     

    2. Supportive period and Eligibility

    Support period Master’s program 1 year of Korean language + 2 years of Master’s
    Doctoral program 1 year of Korean language + 3 years of Doctoral
    Eligibility ① From countries designated by NIIED② Master’s program: Awarded a Bachelor’s degree by August 31, 2016③ Doctoral program: Awarded a Master’s degree by August 31, 2016

    ④ Average of grade of more than 80 or within the top 20 percent at the graduated school

     

    3. Selection Procedure

    A. Application: Students can apply via diplomatic offices or UNIST.

    B. 1st screening: Each institution recommends the best applicants according to its standard.

    C. 2nd screening: The NIIED Selection Committee selects the successful candidates from the pool of applicants recommended by the 1st selection institutions.

    D. 3rd screening: Only the applicants who are recommended by the Korean embassy will be evaluated by UNIST.

     

    4. Scholarship

    A. Round-trip economy class ticket, Monthly allowance(₩900,000/month), Research allowance(₩210,000/month), Medical insurance(₩20,000/month), Settlement allowance(₩200,000), Tuitions, Language training fee

    B.  Special funding for who are proficient in the Korean language   (TOPIK Level 5 or 6): ₩100,000/month

    6.  Required scores in English test

    A. All applicants must submit a score from an official English test when applying to UNIST.

    B. The test date on the certificate should be within 2 years of the deadline for the online application.

    C. Native English speakers are exempt from submitting a score. (U.S, Canada, U.K, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand)

    D. Applicants do not need to submit a score if they submit a certificate stating that they have completed all of their university courses in English. (However, the English score must be submitted later to graduate)

     

    7. Evaluation of UNIST

    A.  1st screening (Dossier evaluation): All the documents submitted to UNIST are comprehensively considered and admission decisions are based on the applicant’s potential, academic achievements.

    B. 2nd screening (Interview): All the documents submitted to UNIST comprehensively are considered and admission decisions are based on the applicant’s academic ability, sociable, and possibility to contribute to society.

     

    8. Schedule

    A. Application period: February 15(Mon) ~ March 25(Fri)

    B. The 1st selection: March 28(Mon) ~ April 8(Fri)
